Acreage Day Home
Where Little Learners Make Big Discoveries
A welcoming, licensed day home offering play-based learning, personalized attention and the beauty of acreage living.
A Childhood Full of Wonder, Discovery and Belonging
Every child deserves a place where they feel safe, valued, encouraged and excited to discover something new.
At Acreage Day Home, located in Springbank near Harmony in Rocky View County, we believe that the early years of childhood should be filled with joyful experiences, meaningful friendships, imaginative play and opportunities to explore the world.
Our licensed home-based childcare program brings together the warmth of a family environment, the guidance of an experienced early childhood educator and the unique benefits of acreage living.
Rather than simply providing supervision, we aim to create enriching daily experiences that help children develop confidence, curiosity, independence, communication skills and a lifelong enthusiasm for learning.
1. A Bright, Spacious and Welcoming Indoor Environment
Our indoor learning environment is thoughtfully organized to give children opportunities to move, create, discover, socialize and relax throughout the day.
Colourful play mats, child-sized tables and chairs, books, educational toys, building materials and activity areas help make learning engaging and accessible. Children can explore independently, participate in guided activities, or work together with friends.
We believe that a welcoming physical environment can contribute to children’s sense of belonging and confidence. By providing a balance of active and quiet spaces, we encourage children to follow their interests while developing important skills.
2. The Acreage Advantage: Nature as an Extended Classroom
One of the distinguishing features of Acreage Day Home is our Springbank setting, where children can enjoy opportunities for outdoor exploration, movement and connection with nature.
Outdoor learning provides experiences that cannot always be recreated inside a classroom. The natural environment encourages children to observe, investigate, ask questions and develop appreciation for the world around them.
Active play supports coordination and confidence. Nature discovery encourages curiosity and early scientific thinking. Alberta’s changing seasons bring fresh opportunities for observation, imagination and sensory learning.
All outdoor experiences are planned with appropriate supervision, weather considerations and children’s individual developmental needs in mind.
3. Play-Based Learning: Building the Foundation for Tomorrow
Children learn through doing. When they play, they experiment, communicate, solve problems, make decisions and develop an understanding of themselves and others.
Our approach recognizes that meaningful early learning does not require children to sit at desks or complete worksheets for long periods. Learning can happen while building a tower, singing a song, looking at a picture book, sorting objects or pretending to run a grocery store.
Our educator adapts activities to children’s ages, interests, abilities and individual learning styles. The emphasis is on exploration, participation and enjoyment rather than comparison or competition.
4. Small-Group Care with Personalized Attention
We understand that every child is unique. Children develop at different rates, have different interests and express their needs in different ways.
A small-group, home-based setting offers opportunities to build meaningful relationships and respond thoughtfully to each child’s personality and stage of development.
Some children may be naturally outgoing and eager to join group activities. Others may prefer to observe before participating. Some enjoy physical activities, while others gravitate toward books, puzzles or creative projects.
Our approach is to respect those differences and provide encouragement without unnecessary pressure. Through consistent routines, caring interactions and developmentally appropriate experiences, we aim to help children build security, independence and belonging.
5. Qualified and Caring Early Childhood Education
The quality of childcare depends not only on the environment and activities, but also on the knowledge, commitment and relationships developed by the educator.
Acreage Day Home is operated by Parvinder Chahal, a Level 3 Early Childhood Educator with an Early Learning and Child Care diploma from Northwestern Polytechnic and previous experience working with elementary and middle-school-aged children.
Her educational background supports a thoughtful approach to children’s developmental needs, daily routines, learning experiences and social-emotional growth.
We believe that children thrive when adults listen to them, respect their feelings, celebrate their progress and provide consistent guidance.
6. A Day at Acreage Day Home

7. Healthy Meals and Positive Food Experiences
Good nutrition and positive eating experiences are important parts of early childhood development.
Our day home includes morning breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks as part of the daily program. Mealtimes also provide opportunities to practise communication, learn routines, develop independence and enjoy positive social interactions.
We encourage age-appropriate self-help skills, including handwashing, using utensils, communicating food preferences and participating in simple mealtime routines.
We recognize that children have different appetites, cultural food experiences, allergies and dietary requirements. Families are encouraged to discuss individual needs with the provider.
8. Supporting Emotional Well-Being and Social Confidence
Childhood is a time of significant emotional and social development. Learning how to express feelings, build relationships and manage everyday challenges is just as important as learning numbers or letters.
At Acreage Day Home, we aim to create a respectful environment where children feel heard and included.
Our educator encourages positive communication, empathy, patience and cooperation. When challenges arise, children receive developmentally appropriate guidance to help them understand feelings and explore solutions.
We encourage children to celebrate each other’s achievements, respect differences and recognize that everyone belongs.
9. Safety, Supervision and a Caring Environment
Families place tremendous trust in childcare providers. We recognize the responsibility involved in caring for young children.
As a licensed day home, our focus includes appropriate supervision, safe daily routines, age-appropriate activities, hygienic practices and attention to children’s individual needs.
Our approach to safety extends to both indoor and outdoor activities, including transitions, rest periods, meals and play.
We encourage open communication with parents about allergies, health needs, emergency contacts, daily routines and other information relevant to their child’s care. Safety is not separate from learning: a child who feels secure and supported is better positioned to explore confidently.
10. Inclusive Care: Every Child Belongs
Families bring different cultures, traditions, languages, experiences and perspectives into our community. We value those differences and aim to provide an environment where children and families feel welcome.
Our educational approach emphasizes kindness, respect, positive relationships and meaningful participation.
Children are encouraged to appreciate individual differences, learn from one another and develop an understanding of fairness and inclusion.
We believe a caring early learning environment should support children’s sense of identity and belonging while encouraging curiosity about the wider world.
11. Strong Partnerships with Parents and Families
Parents are children’s first and most important teachers. A positive partnership between families and childcare providers helps create continuity, trust and meaningful support.
At Acreage Day Home, we value respectful, two-way communication. We encourage parents to share information about their children’s interests, routines, developmental milestones and individual needs.
Our goal is to keep families informed about important experiences, progress and matters affecting their child’s well-being. We also welcome conversations about transitions, adjustment periods and ways to support children as they grow.
12. Why Springbank and Harmony Families Choose Acreage Day Home
Families searching for childcare in Springbank, Harmony and nearby Rocky View County communities often look for more than convenient hours. They want an environment where their children can feel comfortable, build meaningful relationships and enjoy enriching daily experiences.
13. Preparing Children for a Bright Future
Early childhood education is about much more than preparing children academically for school.
It is about helping them become curious learners, confident communicators, creative thinkers and caring members of their communities.
Through play, daily routines, friendships, nature exploration and supportive interactions, children gradually develop important foundations for lifelong learning: resilience, independence, communication, cooperation, problem-solving and a willingness to explore unfamiliar experiences.
We believe that every small discovery matters, whether a child learns to complete a puzzle, makes a new friend, asks a thoughtful question, or gains the confidence to try something independently. At Acreage Day Home, our aspiration is to make those everyday moments meaningful.
